AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, American Trucking Associations recognized the supporters of the federation's image and outreach campaigns during opening session at the annual ATA's Management Conference and Exhibition.
"America's Road Team Captains and Share the Road professional truck drivers are essential components of ATA's mission to promote growth and safety within the trucking industry," said ATA President and CEO Chris Spear. "Because of our generous sponsors and supporters, our programs were able to reach hundreds of thousands of drivers, policymakers, potential trucking industry employees, veterans and students this year. From delivering hurricane relief to truck driver school graduation speeches, these individuals offered their skills and knowledge of the industry in communities across America."
America's Road Team, exclusively sponsored by Volvo Trucks, is a group of elite professional truck drivers who are passionate about bringing the importance of the trucking industry to the forefront of the national conversation. They emphasize the necessity of safe driving and a positive image to groups within the industry and to the general motoring public. As a premier ATA national public outreach program, Captains interact with motorists, policymakers, government officials, students, veterans, among others as part of their mission of education. In fact, America's Road Team Captain David Boyer of ABF Freight represented the trucking industry at the White House in early October for a discussion with President Trump on regulatory reform.
ATA's image show truck, Interstate One, is pulled by a new Volvo VNL 760 and accompanies America's Road Team as the hands-on component of their message of safety. The truck is equipped with a mobile classroom and simulator to aid in its efforts, providing guests a chance to learn about and experience driving a truck firsthand. It is sponsored by Volvo Trucks and supported by Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, EpicVue, Omnitracs, TA/Petro, and Voyager/US Bank.
"The image programs are an integral part of ATA's message of safety and the necessity of the trucking industry. One of our main focuses this year is demonstrating how important America's Road Team is to showing industry outsiders the amount of good, available jobs in trucking," said ATA COO and EVP of Industry Affairs Elisabeth Barna. "We are thankful that the industry has been supportive of our endeavor to spread this message as far and wide as we can."
ATA's Share the Road highway safety program is sponsored by Mack Trucks, Inc, and is supported by Hyundai Translead, Omnitracs, PSI Inflation Systems, Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, Mack Leasing, TA/Petro, and PrePass – Services provided by Help Inc. The program aims to educate the public on how to safely navigate around large trucks, and reaches millions of Americans every year. Throughout October, the Share the Road program toured Virginia and West Virginia high schools demonstrating truck blind spots to more than ten thousand high school students.
"This was another successful year for the Share the Road program, and it would not be possible without the help of our sponsors, supporters, and our drivers' employers who have enhanced our ability to spread important safety messages," said Barna. "Together we have been able to connect with an audience of millions both globally and within the US and we are excited to be able to continue to do so."
ATA's Share the Road Mack Anthem is a key component in bringing awareness to important safety issues through the hands-on demonstrations given by Share the Road professional truck drivers at conferences, driving schools, job fairs, and various other events across the country.
