Second Annual Challenge Shines Light on Health and Wellness Issues
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A group of trucking industry executives and America's Road Team Captains are stepping up to take on an activity challenge to promote healthy lifestyle habits during this week's American Trucking Associations Management Conference & Exhibition.
"The Healthy Trucker Challenge is a tremendous way to promote healthy habits and wellness in our industry," said former ATA Chairman Phil Byrd, president of Bulldog Hiway Express, Charleston, S.C., "and I'm confident that I – and my fellow ATA executives – will more than keep up with America's Road Team over the next few days."
During the challenge, Healthy Trucker will be tracking the steps – walking, running, jogging – of Byrd; outgoing chairman Duane Long, Longistics; incoming Chairman Pat Thomas, UPS Inc.; Kevin Burch, Jet Express; Dave Manning, TCW; Barry Pottle, Pottle's Transportation; and ATA President and CEO Bill Graves. Their steps will be compared to the steps of the America's Road Team Captains. Last year, the America's Road Team Captains defeated the leadership team in the inaugural challenge. The 2014 challenge was accompanied with a video documentary that brought awareness to the need for truck drivers to find innovative solutions to staying active while on the road.
"For truck drivers, it's important to take advantage of the chances we have to stay fit and active," said America's Road Team Captain Richie Buitrago (Con-way Freight) who has been driving for over 34 years. "Over the next couple days, we're going to show just how healthy truckers can be."
Daily updates on the progress of the two teams will be posted in the ATA MCE Exhibit Hall and at the Healthy Fleet Booth, #1050. Attendees can also sign up to participate for bragging rights at the ATA Challenge Website.
