At White House Energy Datapalooza Event, Building Energy Inc. Announces Initiative to Harvest Energy Efficiency from Small Buildings Nationwide
Building Energy also Announces Integration of Key Government Software Tools with its Cloud-Based Software-as-a-Service Platform
WASHINGTON, May 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- White House Energy Datapalooza - Building Energy Inc., developer of the largest trusted platform of data and apps for the built environment today announced the launch with the National Trust for Historic Preservation of its platform to over 1,200 Main Street Center communities for energy savings, job creation, and community resilience. Building Energy also announced that in addition to its integration of Portfolio Manager, Green Button, Buildings Performance Database (BPD), and the Standard Energy Efficiency Data (SEED) application, it is extending its cloud-based software-as-a-service platform to support Open Studio-based tools such as the Commercial Building Energy Asset Score to further enable private-market solutions that leverage the Administration's Energy Data Initiative. Magnus Cheifetz, Building Energy's CEO and co-founder, made the announcements at the White House Energy Datapalooza Technology Showcase that featured Building Energy among other innovative uses of energy data.
"By developing the national BPD and municipal-level SEED applications as part of our SaaS platform, integrating tools like Open Studio and Green Button, and open-sourcing SEED, Building Energy is providing new resources to foster breakthrough innovation for portfolio managers, service providers, policy makers, and citizens alike," Cheifetz said. "We just put an additional key piece of the puzzle in place by engaging America at a Main Street, neighborhood, and district level as we launched Building Energy for over 1,200 communities at the 2014 National Main Streets Conference in Detroit last week. By connecting small and medium-size businesses, local contractors, community-based financing, and objective, real-world data we will enable a long-awaited strengthening of the heart and sinew of America that works in commercial buildings smaller than 50,000 square feet."
"By leveraging freely available government data and tools, entrepreneurs and innovators are helping to build the clean energy economy," said Todd Park, U.S. Chief Technology Officer and Assistant to the President. "Innovations like those featured today at the Energy Datapalooza can help Americans conserve energy, save money, and advance a safer and cleaner future."
"Harvesting energy efficiency from small buildings is like striking oil, except it's local, clean and keeps dollars in our local economies," said Mark Huppert, Senior Director of the National Trust's Preservation Green Lab, which is leading the DOE-funded initiative with Building Energy and is using data to reduce the cost of delivering energy efficiency to small businesses and small buildings. "The savings will produce real jobs that can't be offshored or outsourced. To realize the opportunity, Building Energy is helping to develop a national data standard that puts data to work in the service of business owners and our team is enabling a grassroots data collection effort based on transparency and access. That's where we'll start to see big shifts in the energy efficiency of 95 percent of all commercial buildings in the United States."
