At Home Donates $150,000 To Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Company Supports Cancer Research With National In-Store Fundraiser and Sponsorship
PLANO, Texas, Dec. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- At Home, the home decor superstore, announced a $150,440 donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) to fund breakthrough blood cancer research around the world and help ensure patients have access to lifesaving treatments. This donation was the result of a successful inaugural year of national partnership with LLS, the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to finding cures for blood cancer. Throughout the month of September, At Home team members at locations across the U.S. collected $1, $5 and $10 donations at the check-out registers.
"This donation will go a long way to support the great work The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is doing in the fight against blood cancer," said Lee Bird, chief executive officer of At Home. "We are thrilled by the generosity of our At Home customers and team members who came together to help surpass our expectations for At Home's first national charitable campaign."
In addition to conducting in-store fundraising, At Home sponsored The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walks in several cities across the country. Light The Night Walks bring together families and communities to honor blood cancer survivors, as well as those lost to the diseases, to shine a light on the importance of finding cures and providing access to treatments for blood cancer patients.
Continuing to support the cause, At Home sponsored full-and part-time team members' participation in their local Light The Night walks at the $100 Champion level.
"Our partnership with At Home is helping to bring us closer to our vision of a world without blood cancers," said Louis J. DeGennaro, PhD, LLS president and chief executive officer. "Together, we are having an impact. LLS has invested more than $1 billion in research to advance new therapies for blood cancer patients. Funds raised by At Home will help LLS invest in research to advance new treatments, like targeted therapies that zero in on cancer cells and kill them, and immunotherapies that use a patient's own immune system to fight cancer," said DeGennaro.
