W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., March 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- ASTM International has published the first papers in its new online journal: Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing Systems. Access to papers during the journal's inaugural year is free (here).
"From dozens of submissions, we are pleased to announce the first four published, authored by 20 leading minds in this fast-growing field," said Dr. Sudarsan Rachuri, the journal's editor-in-chief who is the federal program manager for the Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute at the U.S. Department of Energy.
They are:
- "Toward a Digital Thread and Data Package for Metals-Additive Manufacturing," by D.B. Kim, P. Witherell, Y. Lu, and S. Feng;
- "A Classification Scheme for Smart Manufacturing Systems' Performance Metrics," by Y.T. Lee, S. Kumaraguru, S. Jain, S. Robinson, M. Helu, Q.Y. Hatim, S. Rachuri, D. Dornfeld, C.J. Saldana, and S. Kumara;
- "Concept-Based Text Mining Technique for Semantic Classification of Manufacturing Suppliers," by P.Y. Shotorbani and F. Ameri; and,
- "An Agent Based Distributed Shop Floor Control System for a Job Shop Environment," by M. Kumari, N. Chilwant, A. Prajapati, and M.S. Kulkarni.
As these titles suggest, the journal fosters transdisciplinary research and industrial technologies that cross the boundaries of information science, systems engineering and engineering design, manufacturing, product life-cycle, and emerging data science. This journal provides a platform for researchers and practitioners from these disciplines to share research results, practical industry applications, and case studies. Submissions are welcome here: www.astm.org/SSMS.
According to Rachuri, a key goal of the journal is to support collaboration among academia, industry, government labs, and nonprofit organizations to support research and technology development in smart and sustainable manufacturing. Hear more from Rachuri in this video interview.
More than 50 top global experts serve as the journal's associate editors, editorial board members, and advisory board members.
Over 5,300 members of ASTM International from 65 countries participate in technical committees related to smart manufacturing, including additive manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, industrial biotechnology, nanotechnology, automation technology, and more.
