W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., Feb. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- ASTM International, one of the world's leading standards development organizations, announced today that it will serve as a top global venue for creating practices, guides and other standards for human resource (HR) management.
The launch of Committee E63 on Human Resource Management follows a Dec. 14 organizational meeting held at ASTM headquarters in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. ASTM's board of directors formally approved its creation Feb. 2.
The new committee brings together leaders in the HR field to contribute their expertise from a variety of areas such as compensation and benefits, employee relations, workforce planning, diversity and inclusion, training, performance management, and more.
"We are pleased that experts in the HR industry will be working through ASTM to help develop standards for this crucial and thriving field of professionals who help millions of workers worldwide," says James A. Thomas, ASTM president.
E63 is attracting participants from businesses, government, higher education, associations and elsewhere. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), which previously led standardization efforts in this field, will also participate. ASTM's open approach to standards development allows anyone to join.
Steve Browne, executive director of human resources at LaRosa's Inc., a large pizza restaurant chain based in Cincinnati, Ohio, says, "Standardization works. The new standards that flow from this committee will be essential for small businesses – including LaRosa's own franchisees – that might not have formal HR functions." Browne, a SHRM senior certified professional, adds, "At the same time, large organizations such as ours could use these standards to create greater consistency across business units." The company and its franchisees employ about 5,000 people across four U.S. states.
The goals of the committee include but are not limited to:
