Association of Black Cardiologists Statement on Nomination of Dr. Scott Gottlieb as FDA Commissioner
NEW YORK, April 21, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) supports the confirmation of Scott Gottlieb, MD as Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Gottlieb's record of service and accomplishments make him uniquely positioned to lead the FDA. As a resident of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), his studies focused on the FDA, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, health reform and trends in medicine, including new innovations and technologies. At New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Gottlieb serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine. Under President George W. Bush, he served as FDA's Deputy Commissioner. Importantly, Dr. Gottlieb understands the need to ensure that diverse populations are appropriately represented in clinical trials research, thus ensuring broad applicability of outcomes to those populations of patients requiring treatment. Based on our knowledge of Dr. Gottlieb, we find him to be a thoughtful leader who carefully evaluates all issues before him. We ask the Senate to immediately confirm Dr. Gottlieb as Commissioner of the FDA.
