Assistant Director of National Advertising Division Joins Kelley Drye & Warren LLP
WASHINGTON, March 18, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Kelley Drye & Warren LLP is pleased to announce that Jennifer Fried has joined the firm's Advertising and Marketing Practice as special counsel. Ms. Fried comes to the firm from the National Advertising Division ("NAD")—the advertising industry's self-regulatory body—where she served as Assistant Director.
Ms. Fried brings with her ten years of experience at NAD, where she decided cases across a broad range of industries including telecommunications, food and beverage, OTC drugs, household consumer products, and dietary supplements. Having reviewed substantiation for hundreds of advertising campaigns and applied the relevant law in rendering case decisions, Ms. Fried is uniquely equipped to help advertisers ensure compliance during the creative process and to assist if claims are challenged by regulators or competitors.
While at NAD, Ms. Fried served as NAD's lead appellate advocate, with responsibility for representing the organization before the National Advertising Review Board ("NARB"), the appellate body charged with reviewing NAD's decisions. In this capacity, she drafted dozens of briefs in support of NAD's decisions and defended NAD's position at NARB hearings.
"We are delighted to welcome Jennifer to the firm. We have known her to be a talented lawyer, and her experience at the NAD will bring great value to our clients," said Christie Grymes Thompson, Chair of the Advertising and Marketing Practice Group. "I have long admired Jennifer's skills, both as a case attorney and advocate before NARB. Her addition will strengthen an already strong team of NAD specialists," commented John E. Villafranco, partner in the practice group.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Fried worked as an associate at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy. She received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and her B.A. from the University of Michigan.
Ms. Fried has been an active speaker on advertising law and consumer protection topics to audiences including the ABA Section of Antitrust Law and the New York State Bar Association's Food, Drug & Cosmetic Law Section. She has also spoken at numerous industry-specific events such as the Natural Beauty Summit and the Financial Services Marketing Compliance Conference, as well as the FTC's "Green Lights & Red Flags: FTC-BBB Rules of the Road for Advertisers & Marketers" program. Her published articles have appeared in American Bar Association publications, The American Lawyer, New York Law Journal, Corporate Counsel magazine, and more.
"I am very excited about joining Kelley Drye's Advertising and Marketing Practice Group, which I have always considered to be among the very best advertising law practices in the U.S.," Ms. Fried said.
