ASM International Appoints 2014-2015 ASM Board Officers and Trustees-Elect
President, Vice President, Treasurer and three Trustees elected by ASM membership
MATERIALS PARK, Ohio, Nov. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- ASM International (ASM), the world's largest association of metals-focused materials professionals, today announced the appointment of the 2014-2015 ASM Board Officers and Trustees-Elect. The ASM Board of Trustees includes four officers (president, vice president, immediate past president and treasurer) and nine trustees. Three new trustees are elected by ASM International's members each year and serve three-year terms. The new appointees to the 2014-2015 Board include:
Dr. Sunniva R. Collins, FASM, 2014-2015 President-Elect
A professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), Collins teaches materials, design and manufacturing courses. Prior to joining CWRU, Collins was employed by Swagelok Company for 18 years. She has been a member of ASM since 1988 with honors including but not limited to the 2006 ASM Engineered Materials Achievement Award, 2008 R&D 100 Award, Cleveland Chapter's 2009 Award of Distinction and naming as a fellow of Alpha Sigma Mu, the national honor society for materials scientists. Collins served as ASM Board Vice President prior to appointment as President-Elect.
Jon Tirpak, P.E., FASM, 2014-2015 Vice President-Elect
As senior program manager for the SCRA Applied R&D Advanced Materials Division, Tirpak is directly involved in materials-dependent technologies and helps to support customers and clients through information generation and dissemination. He was commissioned as a second Lieutenant by the U.S. Air Force in 1982, working in areas such as nuclear testing and structural failure analysis. Tirpak has chaired the New Products and Services Committee and the Federal Affairs Committee. He currently serves on the Finance and Investment Committees, now concurrently with becoming Vice President-Elect of the Society. He became a member of ASM in 1980.
Craig D. Clauser, P.E., 2014-2015 Treasurer-Elect
Founder, president and owner of Craig Clauser Engineering Consulting Inc. (CCECI), Clauser's company provides national metallurgical engineering services, primarily in the areas of failure analysis and process improvement. Following graduation from Lehigh University, he joined Westinghouse Electric Power Generation before moving to Phoenix Steel Corporation as Technical Director in 1977. He transitioned to Consulting Engineers and Scientists Inc. as an engineer and senior vice president until launching his own firm. Clauser joined ASM in 1967 and has served as Chairman of the ASM Chapter Operations Committee and the Handbook Committee.
Dr. Kathrynn Dannemann, 2014-2015 Trustee-Elect
Dannemann is principal engineer in the Engineering Dynamics Department at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). She directs technical programs investigating materials response in various engineering systems. Before joining SwRI in 1996, she worked at General Electrics, receiving recognition for her contributions to high-temperature materials. Joining ASM 34 years ago, Dannemann currently serves on the Materials Property Database Committee and is Scholarship/Student Affairs Chairperson for the Alamo Chapter of ASM. She has held numerous leadership positions and remains counselor to the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) student section at Trinity University.
Dr. Tirumalai S. Sudarshan, FASM, 2014-2015 Trustee-Elect
Sudarshan is currently the president and CEO of Materials Modification, Inc. Since joining the company 28 years ago, he is responsible for the management and technical development of innovative materials, processes and techniques. Additionally, he leads the development of new technologies related to surface engineering and nanotechnology. He joined ASM in 1984 with involvement in numerous committees and is currently Chair of the ASM-IIM lectureship committee. He is a Fellow of ASM International, member of the National Materials Advisory Board, coauthor of 175 publications and coeditor of 28 books on surface modification technologies.
Dr. David B. Williams, FASM, 2014-2015 Trustee-Elect
Williams is the Monte Ahuja Endowed Dean's Chair, Executive Dean of the Professional Colleges and Dean of the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University. He oversees the education of more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students, leads a research program that exceeds $120 million annually and is responsible for the administration of 950 combined faculty, research scientists and staff. He serves on multiple ASM boards and is a fellow on several national and international professional societies concerning materials and microscopy. Williams has given 280 invited presentations at universities, conferences and research labs in 28 nations.
