AskMen Announces the Top 99 Most Outstanding Women of 2015
One million votes place Emma Watson, Ronda Rousey, Kim Kardashian, Taylor Swift and Lindsey Vonn at the top of the list
NEW YORK, March 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- After one million reader votes cast internationally, and drawing input from five other leading publications, AskMen announces that actress Emma Watson was voted No. 1 on its Top 99 Most Outstanding Women of 2015. This year's list celebrates women whose achievements are shaping and defining their respective fields. Rounding out this year's top five are UFC powerhouse Ronda Rousey, socialite-turned-entrepreneur Kim Kardashian, pop music phenomenon Taylor Swift, and World Cup alpine ski champion Lindsey Vonn.
To ensure that the list celebrated women's achievements across a variety of fields and disciplines, panelists representing five premier online publications -- Business Insider, Huffington Post Lifestyle, PCMag, Sports Illustrated, and Yahoo! Celebrity -- helped AskMen's editorial team construct the original list of 200 nominees.
A New Type Of List In The Men's Media Landscape
After curating its famous Top 99 Most Desirable Women feature for almost 15 years, AskMen decided to shift the focus to what makes women outstanding in their own right. As the world's leading online men's lifestyle magazine, with 18 million monthly unique visits, the site is uniquely positioned to tap into and share what men are thinking and talking about online.
"This year's list is not only a reflection of a shift in the media, but also a shift in modern male thinking," said James Bassil, Publisher. "We wanted to steer away from 'hot' lists and highlight women who have demonstrated a sheer influence in their industry. We were looking for women who are doing something new this year, something that demonstrates their versatility and raw talent."
When panelist Andy Gray, Senior Web Producer at Sports Illustrated, was asked what he thought of the reinvented Top 99 feature, he said, "What I think is interesting about this year's list is that people will read it -- where before they would look at the list and look at the women. Here you want to read about the women and learn more about them, what they did and their background."
