ASID, IES and IALD Announce Friendship Agreement to Strengthen Greater Design Community
WASHINGTON, June 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- June 17, 2014, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) formally signed a cooperative Friendship Agreement with the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). Dozens of industry professionals were in attendance to listen to the respective leaders of the three associations.
ASID Executive Vice President and CEO Randy Fiser opened the event with a warm introduction acknowledging the efforts the new partners put forth to make this day possible: "This partnership between our respective professional practices directly affects the processes of interior construction, retrofitting and renovation. Moving forward, this agreement will be highlighted in our industry relations, public policy and legislative efforts, and educational outreach programs."
IES President Daniel Salinas, IALD CEO Marsha Turner and IALD President Barbara Horton each discussed how the mutual participation and new level of industry collaboration will lead to a better professional environment for all three organizations. The Friendship Agreement also will ensure that the technical disciplines of lighting design, lighting application and interior design will be valued, supported and utilized at the local, state and federal levels.

About the American Society of Interior Designers
The American Society of Interior Designers believes that design transforms lives. ASID serves the full range of the interior design profession and practice through the Society's programs, networks and advocacy. We thrive on the strength of cross-functional and interdisciplinary relationships among designers of all specialties, including workplace, healthcare, retail and hospitality, education, institutional and residential. We lead interior designers in shared conversations around topics that matter: from evidenced-based and human-centric design to social responsibility, well-being and sustainability. We showcase the impact of design on the human experience and the value interior designers provide.
ASID was founded nearly 40 years ago when two organizations became one — an anniversary we will recognize in 2015 — but its legacy dates back to the early 1930s. As we celebrate nearly 85 years of industry leadership, we are poised to lead the future of interior design, continuing to integrate the advantages of local connections with national reach, of small firms with big and of the places we live with the places we work, play and heal.
