Asian Real Estate Association of America to Name Anthony Hsieh, Chairman and CEO of loanDepot, as Person of the Year
Annual Award Given to Person Who Made Biggest Impact Increasing Asian American & Pacific Islander Homeownership; Overall Business Leadership
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) is pleased to announce that Anthony Hsieh, Chairman and CEO of loanDepot, will be awarded its Person of the Year honor at its national conference later this month. As an industry visionary who has built one of the largest mortgage lending operation in the U.S., Mr. Hsieh is credited as the architect of modern consumer lending and has more than 30 years of success driving lending's evolution into the digital age.
"It is very humbling to be recognized as Person of the Year by AREAA," Mr. Hsieh said. "For me, it has been important to challenge the status quo and look for smarter ways to approach business. At loanDepot, our strategy focuses on pairing the industry's top talent with our proprietary and groundbreaking technology to provide home buyers with a best-in-class lending experience."
His vision for a tech-enabled experience creates new paradigms in consumer lending, rewriting the rules of established norms that have long resisted innovation. Mr. Hsieh's recent focus has been mello™, the company's proprietary digital ecosystem that allows consumers to have a high-tech experience, coupled with a high-touch experience in a retail lending store, as well as fast-tracking new product development, and growing ancillary markets.
"Mr. Hsieh's recognition celebrates the powerful business leadership and the significant impact of Asian American entrepreneurship," stated 2017 AREAA President Angie Lee of New York. "As the second largest non-bank retail lending firm in the U.S., loanDepot has reached $110 billion in loan fundings in just 7 years since founding in 2010. Beyond the business, Anthony is an immigrant whose personal story serves as inspiration for future generations. We cannot think of a more deserving person for this prestigious award than Anthony Hsieh."
Mr. Hsieh's overall contribution to the U.S. lending industry, especially with digital mortgage and dynamic credit underwriting, aligns with AREAA's mission to increase homeownership in the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. Partly due to the lack of dynamic credit decisioning, the AAPI homeownership rate lags behind the national average by nearly 10 percent. AREAA also provides a national voice to support policies that benefit AAPI homeownership, empower real estate and lending professionals who serve the market.
Additionally, two loanDepot Licensed Loan Officers, Marc Bui and Kitty Lee, both of California, will be recognized at AREAA's national conference as two of the top 20 "A-List" loan officers in the country.
The Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA), established in 2003, is a national business trade organization focused on expanding housing opportunities for Asian American communities and creating business opportunities for real estate business leaders who serve this growing market. With over 16,000 members in 37 chapters across North America, AREAA is the largest real estate trade association dedicated to promoting homeownership in the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
