Ashworth College to Participate in PurpleStride Atlanta
Norcross-based online school joins in fight against pancreatic cancer.
NORCROSS, Ga., Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- November is National Pancreatic Cancer Month and "Ashworthy Causes", Ashworth College's (http://www.ashworthcollege.edu) community service initiative, will be doing its part to raise awareness by participating in PurpleStride Atlanta.
The Georgia based online school will be sponsoring a team for the 2011 5K run/walk which kicks off at Centennial Olympic Park on Saturday, November 19. The event is sponsored by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
"Ashworth takes great pride in its efforts to give back to the local community," said Cerise Lake, Ashworth's Human Resource Administrator. "It's a great opportunity to spend time with co-workers, meet new people, and give back to the community at the same time."
Awareness in pancreatic cancer has grown in recent months, due largely to Apple CEO Steve Jobs who recently ended an eight year battle with the disease. Less common than other cancers the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network states that rates are rising about 1% yearly and the survival rate remains at about 6%.
