Ashley Fiolek Wins Back-To-Back X Games Gold Medals
Able Planet congratulates Ashley Fiolek on taking gold in the Women's Super X event at the 2010 Summer X Games
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Ashley Fiolek returned to X Games 16 to defend her Women's Super X title, and for the second year in a row, her aggressive and strategic riding style led to Gold. Getting off to a quick start, Fiolek carefully chose her lines, taking the lead in the first lap by turning to the inside of the pack through the megaramp tunnel. Focus and determination enabled Fiolek to overcome the extreme competition that led to her second X Games Gold Medal.
Overcoming extreme challenges is nothing new for the 19-year-old from Michigan, who went pro in the male-dominated sport of motocross in 2007. Born deaf, Fiolek set a goal to become the best in her field, and failure was not an option. Always in the head of the pack, Fiolek has set a new standard in WMX. In addition to her success at X Games, she won the American Women's Motocross Championship twice and cruised to victory at the 2009 WMX Championships after breaking her collarbone earlier in the race.
"2010 has been a very challenging year for me," Ashley said. "I spent a great deal of time on the road promoting my new book 'Kicking Up Dirt,' and I tested several new bikes and riding strategies all while recovering from a broken collarbone. And now, I am traveling to increase awareness for Able Planet's 'i am able' campaign that focuses people on overcoming life's challenges and living more active lifestyles. I have had to learn to balance my personal and professional goals, and given the intense competition in Women's Super X, I am very proud to have taken Gold at the Summer X Games."
"We congratulate Ashley on her X Games Gold, and we are honored to have Ashley participate in our 'i am able' campaign," said Kevin Semcken, Chairman and CEO of Able Planet. "Many look at Ashley as a WMX Champion, but she is so much more. Ashley sets a perfect example of what people can achieve, if they remain committed to their goals, and she gives those with disabilities the confidence to face life's challenges head on."
Able Planet is gearing up to launch a "Signature Series" line of its award-winning noise cancellation headphones that will feature world recognized athletes, like Ashley Fiolek, who are the Best of the Best in their fields. Look for Ashley's Pink headphones in November 2010.
