ATLANTA, Nov. 5, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Asankya, Inc., the leader in application delivery networking for network intensive applications, announced today the issuance by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office of a patent for improving transport protocols. The Patent is a complement to Asankya's other technology features, which together provide end-to-end network performance optimization. This patent is crucial to protecting the core algorithms of the Asankya products and services.

The U.S. Patent (App. No. 11/672,390) relates to intelligent transport-layer congestion control algorithms, which are essential to Asankya's solution in optimizing transport protocols and mitigating the negative impact of network losses. The techniques protected by this patent extend the capability of Asankya's products and services to improve the performance of TCP-based applications.
TCP acceleration techniques merely tweak the TCP flow control, windowing or reliability mechanisms. That fails to address TCP's inherent design limitations, so performance improvement is limited. Other techniques over-run the network unintelligently, so that only one application session performs well while others are starved of network throughput.
"The technology protected in this patent includes new approaches to congestion control, a fundamental building block of transport layer design," says patent author and Asankya CTO, Dr. Raghupathy Sivakumar, "The new approaches profoundly improve the end-to-end performance of all transport layer connections especially in high bandwidth, high delay and high loss networks."
The technology protected by this patent is implemented in Asankya's RAPIDnet Application Delivery Network (ADN) service offering and in its RAPID software. RAPID solutions are deployed globally with Asankya's commercial and U.S. Federal customers.
