As New England Braces for Hurricane Irene, MXenergy Issues Customer Instruction
Power Outages Expected Along East Coast, Energy Provider Advises Customers on Power Loss
STAMFORD, Conn., Aug. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hurricane Irene is hurtling towards New England and while her exact impact is not yet known, residents in her path are being instructed to prepare for massive power outages.
MXenergy, a Constellation company and a leading independent provider of natural gas and electricity to many of the states in the storm's path, wants to make sure its customers know who to call should they lose power in this massive storm.
"Should MXenergy customers lose power they need to contact their local utility provider to report outages and for information about restoration of service," says Marjorie Kass, MXenergy managing director of marketing. "Because the actual power is supplied through the individual utility's infrastructure, it is the local utility that will be repairing downed lines and restoring power. As our customers prepare for this storm, we recommend they make sure they have ready access to those key phone numbers and other contact information."
From Virginia to Maine, state and local officials are enacting emergency preparedness plans and some are ordering evacuations. Irene is expected to hit Stamford, CT, where MXenergy has offices, at 1 p.m. Sunday. In a press conference today, Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy declared a state of emergency and advised residents to take this storm very seriously.
Kass reinforces the sentiment. "Current recommendations are for people in the storm's path to be prepared for the possibility of being without power or services for up to 72 hours and to do all they can to protect themselves and their loved ones."
If MXenergy customers are unsure of their local utility, information is available on the MXenergy coverage map at http://mxenergy.com/coverage-map.html.
