It's Time for Congress to Pass a Highway Bill
WASHINGTON, Nov. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A day after Senate Republicans voted against requiring the super-rich to pay their fair share of taxes in order to create construction jobs and invest in America's crumbling transportation system, new data from the U.S. Labor Department shows the jobs picture in the construction industry remains bleak. The industry shed 20,000 jobs in October, with more than 1.1 million construction workers looking for work. The industry unemployment rate rose to 13.7 percent.

Terry O'Sullivan, General President of LIUNA, made the following statement:
"The men and women who build America are struggling to find work, pay their bills and support their families. But yesterday, Republicans in the U.S. Senate responded by killing President Obama's plan to put many of them back to work, and instead sided with millionaires.
"It's not too late for Congress to create jobs by passing a Highway Bill that fully invests in rebuilding our deteriorating bridges, roads and transit systems. By doing so, we can support millions of jobs, get our economy back on track and leave behind real assets for taxpayers and future generations."
The half-million members of LIUNA – the Laborers' International Union of North America – are on the forefront of the construction industry, a powerhouse of workers who are proud to build America.
