A specialist in large high-rise and high-performance buildings, Nicolas has experience in office/corporate, mixed-use developments, hospitality, residential, educational, cultural, athletic, and government sectors.

Named one of Building Design + Construction magazine's "40 Under 40" in 2013, Nicolas is a recognized technical authority and thought leader in the field of electrical engineering. Prior to joining Arup in 2016, she served as an executive consultant to a preeminent Silicon Valley-based tech firm, advising the company's CEO and top management team on domestic and international construction projects and real estate strategies.
As part of her considerable career, Nicolas was also active within the Chicago architecture, engineering and real estate community as a Vice President at a large consulting engineering firm. Among the notable projects to which she has contributed are: the Wrigley Field Restoration and Expansion project in Chicago; the 'Moment' high-rise residential building in Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood; the development of downtown Chicago's Block 37 mixed-use urban center; the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Forum and South Campus Mixed-Use Development Superblock; the Department of Homeland Security's St. Elizabeths Campus in Washington D.C.; FKI Tower in Seoul, Korea; and Jeddah Tower in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Nicolas holds Bachelor of Science degrees in electrical engineering and molecular & cellular biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She was also awarded a graduate fellowship in electrical engineering, theoretical physics, and integrative physiology jointly offered by Stanford University, Princeton University, and UIUC.
