NEW YORK, May 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Arup, a multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm with a reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable designs, today announced its region-wide principal promotions. The Americas Region board, which oversees operations in the United States, Canada, and Brazil, selects new principals on an annual basis. The firm has elevated six individuals to the position of principal.

Peter Alspach, PE, LEED AP BD&C, joined Arup in 2001. He leads the Sustainability, Mechanical, and Plumbing teams in our Seattle office and is the Global Skills Leader for Environmental and Building Physics. He is a mechanical engineer, and a specialist in the design of low energy buildings, focusing on heating, ventilation and air conditioning, energy systems, thermal comfort, and the indoor environment.
Peter has extensive experience leading project teams on a wide variety of projects. He has worked on more than 150 projects so far at Arup including commercial office, central plants/district energy, mixed use, education, residential, and museum/fine arts projects. This breadth of experience allows him to bring a diverse view to his projects.
Will Baumgardner, PE, joined Arup in 1998. He leads the San Francisco Planning Practice and is known for leading challenging multi-modal transportation projects. He has completed planning and design projects across the full range of transportation modes, including walking, bicycling, roadways, buses, bus rapid transit, light rail, metro rail, commuter rail, and high speed rail systems.
Will is also at the forefront of rapidly emerging urban mobility trends and technologies. He advises public and private sector clients on the implications of autonomous vehicles, smart mobility, shared transportation, and technology-enabled mobility services.
Matt Carter, MEng, PE, CEng, joined Arup in 1997 and leads our Long Span Bridge business in the Americas region. He is a civil engineer with extensive experience in the conceptual and detailed design of long-span and complex bridge structures in North America, East Asia, Europe, Africa, and Australia.
Through his work on major bridge projects, Matt has developed significant skills in seismic and aerodynamic design of bridges as well as marine foundations and ship collision risk. Matt has been involved in numerous design-build projects and public private partnerships with both owners and contractors as clients, gaining unique insights by working from different perspectives.
Joanne Iddon, CEng, joined Arup in 1993 and is the Americas Programme and Project Management Skills Leader. With more than 20 years of experience in the construction industry in the UK and the US, Joanne is a seasoned project manager with direct experience in both the client and contractor environments. This experience encompasses the education, research, and commercial spheres within both the public and private sectors.
Joanne's strong interpersonal communication and facilitation skills have helped to develop and sustain excellent working relationships externally with clients and their project teams and internally with teams as prime consultant.
Seth Wolfe, PE, LEED AP, has been with Arup for 13 years. He is a structural engineer and the leader of our New Jersey office. He has extensive structural design and multidisciplinary management experience involving a wide variety of complex buildings and sculptures. His focus centers on developing structures that enhance the project's architecture through the innovative use of materials and sustainable design.
Seth also has experience in all stages of building design including feasibility studies, conceptual design, construction documents, and construction administration. In addition, he is an adjunct assistant professor of architecture at Columbia University and teaches at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Josh Yacknowitz, PE, LEED AP, joined Arup in 2002. He leads the Science and Industry Business in the Americas region. He is an experienced mechanical engineer with a varied background in central plant, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and industrial utilities design. He has been involved in laboratory, industrial, and commercial facilities design, both as a mechanical engineer and as a design project manager.
Josh's experience also includes interdisciplinary design management of large teams comprised of internal and sub consultant groups. As the Science and Industry Business Leader, Josh focuses on laboratories, manufacturing/industrial, pharma/biotech, and data center clients.
