HOUSTON, April 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Arup, a multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm with a reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable designs, today announced its region-wide promotions. The Americas Region board, which oversees operations in the United States, Canada, and Brazil, selects new associates and associate principals on an annual basis. The 31 promotions throughout the region include Somchat Suwan, PE, to the position of associate in the firm's Houston office.

Somchat Suwan, PE, is a structural engineer/naval architect in Arup's Houston office. Before joining Arup in 2003, he received a bachelor's in civil engineering from Chulalongkorn University and a master's in structural engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Somchat has worked on a wide range of offshore/onshore energy projects from concept study to detailed engineering design and construction support, and has taken on many international assignments. Somchat's main responsibility has been to lead discipline and project design teams on energy projects including offshore gravity-based substructures, marine facilities, and LNG storage tanks. His technical expertise covers structural analysis and design of concrete and steel structures in marine environments, cryogenic storage tanks, hydrodynamics, naval architecture, and marine operations engineering. A few of Somchat's notable projects include the White Rose Extension Project Wellhead Platform in Canada, the Malampaya Depletion Compression Platform in the Philippines, and the Sengkang LNG in Indonesia.
