Gwen McMillin, PhD, kicks off the lecture series with "A Novel Approach to Drug Screening with Blood." McMillin, an internationally recognized authority on pain management, is ARUP's medical director of toxicology and trace elements and is the co-medical director of pharmacogenetics. During this presentation, she will discuss improvements in sensitivity and specificity gained by a novel mass spectrometric approach to drug screening with blood.
Thursday, May 17 - 3:30 p.m.
Gordon Nelson, C(ASCP), NRCC-TC, vice president of the ARUP Chemistry Division, will focus on cost-effective strategies that eliminate unnecessary testing and inappropriate interpretations for pain management patients during his presentation, "Cost-effective Utilization of Urine Drug Testing for Chronic Pain Management Patients." Nelson is a respected presenter and a leading authority on clinical drug abuse testing.
Friday, May 18 - 9:00 a.m.
The series concludes with Dr. McMillin discussing "Patterns of Opioid Metabolites in Urine—the Buprenorphine Story," which provides a review of typical and atypical patterns of buprenorphine and associated metabolite concentrations in urine, relative to the most likely interpretations regarding compliance with therapy.
