Dr. Charles. D. Hawker Wins AACC's Outstanding Contributions to Management Sciences and Patient Safety Award

SALT LAKE CITY, July 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Charles D. Hawker, PhD, MBA, FACB and scientific director of Automation and Special Projects for ARUP Laboratories, was presented the Outstanding Contributions to Management Sciences and Patient Safety Award Saturday. The prestigious award is presented annually by the Management Sciences and Patient Safety Division of American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC).

The award is intended to recognize an individual's achievements, one who has made outstanding contributions in the field of management sciences or patient safety in the clinical laboratory and healthcare industry.

Hawker is the past president of the Association of Clinical Scientists, the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (NACB), and the Clinical Ligand Assay Society (CLAS). This is not Dr. Hawker's first award; he's a previous winner of the John V. Bergen Award from the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute in 2010, the NACB's Professor Alvin Dubin Award in 2005, and the Association for Laboratory Automation's Becton Dickinson Award in 2000.

Dr. Hawker is the co-author of chapters on automation in the fifth edition of the Tietz Textbook of Clinical Chemistry and Molecular Diagnostics and the sixth edition of the Tietz Fundamentals of Clinical Chemistry. He received his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from Washington University, St. Louis.
