Arup Collaborates on Ten High-Performance University Science Buildings

NEW YORK, Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Arup, a multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm with a reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable designs, announced today its involvement with ten university science centers throughout the United States. The firm is performing multidisciplinary engineering and consulting services and implementing building information modeling (BIM), among other smart-building techniques to achieve client goals of energy efficiency, sustainability, environmental protection, and end-user comfort.

• Arup's engineers introduced a number of measures that helped Princeton University meet its goal of a LEED-equivalent building with their Neuroscience and Psychology Complex.
• The Walter S. Hunter Laboratory at Brown University exhibits a holistic approach in renovating an existing building to provide a sustainable learning environment.
• At Duke University, Environment Hall will incorporate superior sustainable design and the lowest energy use on campus.
• Arup worked within Washington State University's strict budget to deliver the sustainably-designed Veterinary Medical Research building.
• With a target of LEED Platinum, Arup is advising on the engineering and sustainable components of the new Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex (ISEC) at Boston University.
• Arup produced energy models for the newly completed 69,000SF UMass Lowell Health and Social Sciences Building, and determined a 30% reduction in water use and 36% energy reduction were possible.
• The high performance curtainwall at the 220,000 SF Northeastern University Integrated Science and Engineering Complex balances openness with insulating spandrels, and will be wrapped with an outer skin of fixed solar shading to achieve the enhanced thermal performance requirements of the skin.
• Functioning as a shared facility, the Rutgers School of Engineering Gateway building will encourage collaboration among a multitude of engineering programs within the building as well as instructional lab and research accommodations.
• Arup is providing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design services along with fire protection consulting for the design of a new 125,500SF academic building for the College of Health Professions at Sacred Heart University.
• Arup is providing engineering design services for Westfield State College's new Science Center, as part of a greater university science complex.
