LOS ANGELES, Dec. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Arup, a multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm with a reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable designs, announced today the addition of three senior engineers in its Los Angeles office. Richard Prust, PE, principal and geotechnical skills network leader; Saif Hussain, PE, SE, LEED AP, associate principal and senior structural engineer; and Robert Tomlinson, PE, associate and senior mechanical engineer further enhance the firm's practice and represent nearly 100 years of combined technical expertise in their respective fields.

Richard Prust, PE, is a principal in the infrastructure group and Arup's geotechnical skills network leader in the Americas. Richard is a civil engineer with over 25 years of experience leading major infrastructure projects on multiple continents. His expertise ranges from geotechnical engineering to multidisciplinary project management of major transportation projects worldwide. Most recently Richard served as engineering manager for the Fresno to Bakersfield section of the California High-Speed Train Project. Other projects include New York's Second Avenue Subway, Hudson River Park, Terminal 4 Expansion at JFK International Airport, and Montreal's Autoroute 30 — a 30km highway that includes two major water crossings.
Richard joined Arup's London office in 1988 and has worked in Arup offices on three continents during his tenure with the firm. He recently relocated from Arup's Seattle office to expand the leadership of the infrastructure and geotechnical group in Los Angeles. Currently Richard is managing the geotechnical engineering for the $650m Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement Project in Long Beach, California.
Saif Hussain, PE, SE, LEED AP, recently joined Arup as an associate principal and senior structural engineer. Saif has more than 35 years of professional experience specializing in the analysis, design, evaluation, review, and construction of complex projects worldwide. He is internationally recognized for his expertise and work in seismic hazard evaluation and mitigation methods, such as performance-based seismic engineering, seismic base isolation, and energy dissipation. Saif has been actively involved in the development and review of ASCE, UBC/CBC, NEHRP, IBC, FEMA, and other seismic design codes and standards, and is a founding member of the US Resiliency Council. He is a former director of SEAOC and former president of SEAOSC, and has served as chairman for the SEAOC Seismology Committee and SEAOSC Seismic Isolation Code Development Committee.
Robert Tomlinson, PE, CPMP, recently joined Arup as an associate and senior mechanical engineer, bringing 37 years of mechanical engineering and MEP project team leadership experience. Bob specializes in mechanical HVAC engineering, energy systems design and analysis, and MEP project management for a wide range of building types, including hospitals, laboratories, central plants, university buildings, high-rise office buildings, retail/entertainment, public assembly, aviation facilities, justice facilities, and transportation facilities. Currently Bob is working on a new State of California Courthouse in Indio and a new United States embassy in Beirut, Lebanon.
