Artificial Turf is Booming in Orange County
Demand for artificial turf has doubled over the past year, according to Synthetic Grass Warehouse
IRVINE, Calif., April 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- With water restrictions still in full effect, homeowners in Orange County have been struggling to keep their lawns green. As residents flock to their local nurseries and hardware stores in search for solutions, they're finding a product that would have never been on the shelves just 5 years ago: synthetic grass.
The idea of having a fake lawn hasn't always been this widely accepted, but the record-breaking drought has raised some serious questions regarding the sustainability of natural lawns. Homeowner associations are removing their restrictions on having artificial grass lawns, and new home builders are including artificial grass landscaping as a more attractive option than the typical water-wise alternatives.
Grizzly Turf, a contractor that specializes in artificial grass installations for Home Depot throughout LA and Orange County, has grown 164% in the past year. "Folks are finally realizing that they can still have a green lawn that's safe for their families and pets," said David Ostrea, head of Grizzly Turf.
One of Grizzly Turf's most recent landscaping projects was for a homeowner in Irvine, CA. The job covered roughly 3,000 square feet of "Diamond Pro Spring", a turf product line available through Synthetic Grass Warehouse.
"Our grass may not be real, but it certainly looks and feels like it's real. There's no reason to have a real grass lawn anymore. Maintaining real grass is just a waste of time, money and water," Ostrea explains.
With natural grass consuming an average 55 gallons of water per square foot annually, the homeowner in Irvine can expect to save roughly 165,000 gallons of water per year.
