Arthritis is a debilitating disease that destroys joints, bones and connective tissues. More than 50 million Americans (one in five) have some form of arthritis and two-thirds are under the age of 65. There are many different types of arthritis but the one thing they have in common is that the disease strikes women more than men.
"We are thrilled to be honoring these outstanding women who lead, inspire and break new ground in their professional, philanthropic, and individual pursuits," said Paula Mejia, Regional Director of the Arthritis Foundation New York Chapter. "Their commitment to raising awareness about women and arthritis and the resources to help prevent and manage the disease is helping us to change lives."
