Arthritis Foundation Announces New Walk Name And Logo
Walk to Cure Arthritis Raises Money to Find a Cure
ATLANTA, Feb. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Arthritis Foundation has unveiled a new name and logo for its signature fundraising walk event. Walk to Cure Arthritis, formerly Arthritis Walk, officially kicks off this month and will take place in approximately 100 cities through November.
Walk to Cure Arthritis unites communities across the country to put an end to arthritis, a crippling disease that impacts more than 50 million adults and 300,000 children—or approximately 22 percent of the U.S. population. In addition, it is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. and the second most expensive condition billed to private insurance.
Funds raised through Walk to Cure Arthritis support Arthritis Foundation programs, research and advocacy initiatives to help people today while finding a cure for tomorrow. This year's Walk to Cure Arthritis fundraising goal is $8.5 million.
"Arthritis poses a serious threat to individuals, to businesses and to the economy as a whole," says Arthritis Foundation president and CEO, Ann M. Palmer. "Our goal at the Arthritis Foundation is to remove the burden of arthritis entirely through a cure, but we understand that people need help to live better right now."
The Arthritis Foundation encourages people to participate in this year's Walk to Cure Arthritis in honor of a family member, friend or the millions of children and adults living in disabling pain. Participants can choose from fully accessible 3-mile or 1-mile routes. For those unable to walk the route, an option is available to host a team.
Events across the country will feature local honorees to share their stories and encourage participation, while Mayro Kanning and 12-year-old Claire Brennan will serve as national ambassadors for the 2014 Walk to Cure Arthritis in recognition of their inspirational battle with the disease.
Walk to Cure Arthritis is nationally presented by Amgen with additional sponsorship from Massage Envy Spa and Arthritis Today magazine.
