Art Van Furniture Offers Incentive for Detroit Police Officers Who Move Into City
WARREN, Mich., April 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- As more local corporations and financial institutions announce their assistance of Detroit's Project 14, Art Van Furniture is now showing its support with an offer to the first 14 police officers who take advantage of this exciting new pilot program.
Project 14 is an initiative that was introduced earlier this year, designed to encourage Detroit police to live in the neighborhoods which they serve. The program named after a police code meaning "return to normal operations," attempts to bring more police presence in the city by offering them great home buying incentives. Currently limited to Detroit's historic Boston-Edison area and the eastside's English Village, immediate plans are being laid to add more neighborhoods and expand the offer to other city employees.
Detroit Mayor Dave Bing states that Project 14 will allow officers a chance to purchase vacant Detroit homes owned by Detroit Land Bank Authority for as little as $1,000 down. Art Van Furniture is proud to join the movement by offering a $1,000 gift card to each of the first 14 officers who sign up.
"We believe in the City of Detroit," said Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Van Furniture, "we are always looking for new ways to support its redevelopment."
"Mayor Bing is honored by Art Van's unwavering commitment to this administration and the City of Detroit," added Karen Dumas, Chief of Communications and External Affairs for the City of Detroit. "He has a long standing history of stepping up, and he continues to deliver."
