Art Van Furniture And WXYZ-TV's Eighth Annual "Together We Can" Community Food Drive Collects 20,310 Pounds Of Food

WARREN, Mich., Dec. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The eighth annual "Together We Can" food drive was another recipe for success! Art Van Furniture and WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 teamed up with community members to more than double last year's donation with 20,319 pounds of assorted food collected for Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. The food donations will provide approximately 16,933 meals to local residents in need this holiday season.

With all of us coming together as one for a common cause, we were able to smash last year's donations," said Kim Yost, CEO of Art Van Furniture. "The generosity exhibited throughout this event has ensured that thousands of individuals can gather around the table to enjoy a hot meal together and celebrate the true meaning of the season."  

The "Together We Can" food drive was hosted November 1 through November 23 at all Art Van Furniture stores throughout metro Detroit, including the Ann Arbor, Flint, Port Huron and Howell locations. The campaign is part of the Midwest's number one furniture and mattress retailer and WXYZ's ongoing efforts to end hunger across Southeastern Michigan through its partnership with Gleaners. Last year alone, Gleaners distributed over 34.5 million pounds of emergency food to more than 535 soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties.
