ARRIS IPv6 Solutions Now Available for Global Cable Market
Successful Deployments Signal Industry's Readiness to Alleviate Global IP Address Supply
SUWANEE, Ga., April 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ARRIS (Nasdaq: ARRS) today announced that its DOCSIS® 3.0 C4® CMTS and Touchstone® WBM760 Wideband cable modems, using generally available software, have been successfully deployed for an IPv6 services trial by Comcast in the MSO's Denver area systems. The trial featured a live application of native dual stack (IPv4 and IPv6 simultaneously) CPE support.
This trial's successful completion is a key milestone in the IPv6-related research and development efforts conducted by ARRIS, a leader in DOCSIS 3.0 technology. "Over the past year we've worked very closely with our customers to plan IPv6 feature support for both our C4 CMTS and our Touchstone CPE portfolio of cable modems and E-MTAs," said Todd Kessler, ARRIS VP, CMTS Product Management. "We're thrilled to see the success that Comcast has had using our products in their IPv6 customer trials, and we plan to remain at the forefront of delivering real-world IPv6 functionality to our customers. We continue to see a rising level of interest in conducting live IPv6 evaluations from cable operators around the world."
Commenting on the Denver systems' native dual stack trials, John Jason Brzozowski, Comcast's distinguished engineer and chief IPv6 architect, noted: "We are pleased with the progress of our IPv6 deployment and trials to date. The performance of the products and the support we've received have been excellent, allowing us to offer a seamless native dual stack experience to our trial users. As such, Comcast values ARRIS as a partner in cable-based IPv6 technology."
Since 1981, IPv4 has been the publicly used Internet Protocol and is currently the foundation for most Internet communications. The exponential growth of the Internet and the traffic it enables has created a need for more addresses and IPv6 fills that need. The last block of free IPv4 addresses was assigned last month.
