Armis To Detail Risks of Airborne Attack Vector at RSA US 2018
Researchers Behind Viral IoT Vulnerability Blueborne to Introduce New Attack Vector
PALO ALTO, Calif., March 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Armis, the enterprise IoT security company, today announced that CTO and Co-founder Nadir Izrael and Head of Research Ben Seri will present a session entitled "The New Landscape of Airborne Cyberattacks" at RSA Conference US 2018 on April 18 from 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. PT in San Francisco. The session will provide an introduction to the fast growing airborne threat and provide best practices for addressing them, as well as include a live demo of an attack using the Blueborne vector.
As more connected devices — from smartphones and smart TVs to security cameras and Echos, and even medical devices — make their way into homes and offices, the risk of attackers stealing sensitive data and spreading malware via Bluetooth and WiFi has increased. The lack of security in connected devices and a rise in significant vulnerabilities found in wireless protocols used by billions of devices are creating a growing threat that is a blind spot for most enterprises today. One example is Blueborne — the attack vector Armis researchers discovered — that exposed more than 5 billion devices worldwide to Bluetooth-based attacks.
"The idea of a viral, airborne threat may seem like sci-fi, but Blueborne is concrete evidence of its existence, previewing the massive reach IoT vulnerabilities can have. What the industry needs to realize now is that traditional enterprise-grade security solutions are useless in identifying and halting attacks traveling through the airborne vector and spreading from device to device," said Nadir Izrael, CTO and co-founder of Armis. "Businesses are undergoing a digital transformation larger in scale than the introduction of the PC and mobile, combined. With more connected devices entering the workplace, it's critical that we discuss the airborne threat landscape and understand how to protect new, unmanaged devices."
