Armenian Sniper Kills Azerbaijani Child
WASHINGTON, March 10, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being released today by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan:
In a new unspeakable atrocity committed by the Armed Forces of Armenia, a 9-year-old Azerbaijani boy Fariz Badalov was shot dead by an Armenian sniper on March 8, 2011 in Azerbaijan's Aghdam District.
The boy, while playing outside his house, was wounded in the head "when a sniper opened fire from the Armenian-occupied territory" and died on the way to hospital, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defense said.
The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs issued a special statement after the violent incident.
Armenia continues to occupy 20% of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory. Around 1 million Azerbaijani civilians have become refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of this occupation.
Azerbaijan calls on the international community to categorically and unequivocally condemn the killings of civilians, especially of innocent children by the occupying forces of Armenia. Deliberately targeting civilians, just a few days after a meeting of the Presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia in Sochi, Armenia attempts to undermine the already fragile peace process while violating the basic rules of the international humanitarian law.
