Armenian Assembly Of America To Present Panel Discussion, New Armenian Genocide Exhibit At National Press Club
WASHINGTON, April 21, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Armenian Assembly of America (Assembly) is pleased to announce a program of events at the National Press Club dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The Assembly will hold a panel discussion entitled "The Armenian Genocide in American Journalism: 1915-2015" in the Holeman Lounge on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
The panel will feature presentations by Christopher Atamian, Huffington Post, Michael Bobelian, Forbes.com, Stephen Kurkjian, The Boston Globe (ret.), and Robert Ourlian, The Wall Street Journal. Peter Mirijanian will serve as moderator.
As we approach the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, the topic is being featured in every major news syndicate across the globe. Following the frank acknowledgment of the Armenian Genocide as "the first genocide of the twentieth century" by Pope Francis on April 12th, the editorial boards of the Chicago Tribune, Denver Post, Los Angeles Times, New York Daily News, New York Times, Toronto Star, and Jerusalem Post have all called for US and international recognition.

In addition, the Assembly, in cooperation with the Armenian National Institute (ANI) and the Armenian Genocide Museum of America, will display the 'Iconic Images of the Armenian Genocide' exhibit in the First Amendment Lounge on Wednesday, April 22nd from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and on Friday, April 24th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Assembly and ANI staff will be on hand to present and discuss the exhibit with guests.
"The exhibit," stated Assembly Board of Trustees Co-Chair Van Z. Krikorian, "was created to honor the exemplary figures in the United States diplomatic service whose conscientious reporting remains a permanent testament to the horrors of the Armenian Genocide, among them Jesse B. Jackson, US Consul in Aleppo; Leslie A. Davis, US Consul in Harput; Oscar Heizer, US Consul in Trebizond; George Horton, Consul-General in Smyrna; and in Constantinople, Gabriel Bie Ravndal, Consul-General; Hoffman Philip, Charge d'Affaires; Abraham I. Elkus, Ambassador; and Henry Morgenthau, Ambassador."
Established in 1972, the Armenian Assembly of America is the largest Washington-based nationwide organization promoting public understanding and awareness of Armenian issues. The Assembly is a non-partisan, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt membership organization.
