WASHINGTON, May 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Armed Services YMCA is pleased to announce the appointment of Tim Paynter, Vice President, Strategic Communications for Northrop Grumman Corporation, to its national board of directors.

Paynter has responsibility for ensuring appropriate media coverage of the corporation and serves as the company's principal spokesperson. He also acts as the primary communications interface with the company's global business and government relations organizations. Paynter also serves on the company's corporate communications council. Prior to his current position, Paynter served in a variety of leadership positions at Northrop Grumman's Aerospace Systems sector.
Prior to rejoining Northrop Grumman in 2012, Paynter served as Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at EADS North America, the U.S. arm of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co., now Airbus Group. Paynter joined Northrop Grumman at its Unmanned Systems division in 2005.
While serving in the U.S. Navy as a chief journalist, Paynter served in a variety of communications and public affairs leadership positions at shore, afloat and joint commands throughout the Western Pacific and Southeast Asia.
Paynter's military and civilian achievements include the U.S. Navy Broadcast Journalist of the Year award, Naval Media Center Worldwide Sailor of the Year, and the Rear Admiral Ravitz Excellence in Public Affairs award. He has served as a Public Relations Society of America guest speaker for crisis communications, and was named PR News' 15 to Watch Under 30.
Paynter's military qualifications and awards include Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, the Defense Meritorious Service medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation medal (three awards), Joint Service Achievement medal and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement medal (four awards).
Paynter holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and is a graduate of the Defense Department's Defense Information School in print and broadcast journalism.
