ADDISON, Ill., Oct. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- ArjoHuntleigh announced today that it has launched the Dopplex® Ability, an Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) screening device that reduces the time it takes to perform ABI measurements by up to 75% vs. traditional methods.1 ABI measurements are used to predict the severity of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). PAD affects one in every 20 Americans, and it can go largely undetected. Untreated PAD can lead to heart attack, stroke, leg amputations and possibly death.
"We are extremely excited to continue our history of innovation in the area of ABI vascular assessments," stated Brian Straeb, ArjoHuntleigh Vice President of Marketing. "The Dopplex Ability will help caregivers reduce the amount of time they need to conduct ABI testing enabling them to spend significantly more time providing patient care."
The Dopplex Ability is a one-button push medical device that allows clinicians to perform a quick 3 minute test with similar accuracy as the classical method. Recent research has shown that Dopplex Ability has good agreement between unrested Dopplex Ability and the traditional rested Doppler measurements even with diabetic patients who can be difficult to measure.1 These results are accomplished through the use of a new, unique two chamber cuff system using duo sense™ pneumatic technology to measure systolic pressures using volume plethysmography. One chamber is used to occlude the vessel, while the second distal chamber is used to sense the returning signals, allowing four limbs to be measured simultaneously. For over 25 years, ArjoHuntleigh's Dopplex hand held Doppler range has been a global leader for Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) measurements. The Dopplex Ability and the latest generation of the renowned vascular Doppler range offer great performance, quality and value.
