Arizona Virtual Academy Congratulates Class of 2012
Online students plan to attend top colleges and universities across the state
GLENDALE, Ariz., May 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Arizona Virtual Academy (AZVA), a statewide online public school serving students in kindergarten through 12th grade, honored 132 graduates during its 2012 graduation ceremony.
The ceremony took place at the Glendale Civic Center on May 17. State Rep. Kimberly Lee, the first Asian-American woman to serve in the Arizona State Legislature, delivered this year's keynote address. AZVA High School Principal Kelly Van Sande also provided the welcoming address and remarks.
"We're proud to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of each of our graduates," said Megan Henry, head of school at AZVA. "The graduation ceremony recognizes not only their achievements, but the encouragement and support of their families and teachers."
The ceremony featured valedictorian Stacie Lebigot of Surprise, who spoke to this year's graduating class about finding encouragement from within. After graduation, Lebigot is attending Rio Salado Community College in her hometown, where she'll also continue working as membership coordinator for the Fighter Country Partnership, a nonprofit providing support for families of Luke Air Force Base. After she receives her associate degree, she plans to study communications at a four-year college.
