Arizona SciTech Festival Releases 2014 Community Report; Engaging and Inspiring Events Attract Increasingly Larger Attendance and Sponsors
Winners of high-visibility coloring and art contest also announced; award-winning festival makes science and technology fun for all citizens of Arizona
PHOENIX, Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Releasing the findings of its 2014 Community Report, the Arizona SciTech Festival today announced over 320,000 people of all ages attended the combined 2014 events, an increase of 23 percent from last year. Total number of events, venues, newsletter subscribers and sponsors were also reported to have significantly increased as the Festival tallied the results of its third year. Held annually in February and March to inform Arizonans of all ages about how science, technology and innovation affects their everyday lives and will expand their economic future, this years' festivities included over 500 expos, workshops, exhibitions and tours and included 65 sponsors.
"This report is validation that the exceptional efforts made by Arizona's business and economic development communities to create a network of STEM advocates is paying off," said Steven G. Zylstra, president and CEO of the Arizona Technology Council. "As the Festival continues to grow in size and importance, it will continue to raise awareness that science and engineering are the keys to a prosperous future for Arizona."
"What's increasingly clear to me is that our annual events are catalysts for broader community conversations such as rethinking economic development strategies and reassessing K-12 priorities," said Jeremy Babendure, Ph.D., festival director. "This could be the most important long-term contribution of the Arizona SciTech Festival."
In addition to the Arizona Technology Council Foundation, the festival's Foundational Partners include the Arizona Board of Regents, the Arizona Commerce Authority, the Arizona Science Center, Arizona State University, and the University of Arizona.
