Arizona Charter Schools Association Recognizes Arizona Virtual Academy and Insight Academy of Arizona's Megan Henry as Finalist for Leader of the Year Award
CHANDLER, Ariz., Oct. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Arizona Charter Schools Association recently announced the three finalists for Arizona Charter Schools Leader of the Year Award. Among them is Megan Henry, head of school at Arizona Virtual Academy and Insight Academy of Arizona (AZVA/Insight), an online public charter school serving students in grades K through 12.
"It's an honor to be named a finalist among a group of my peers I deeply admire," said Henry. "Education is not one-size-fits all and I've seen how the charter school movement and the more customized approach we deliver through AZVA and Insight's online model has helped our teachers and students thrive."
Henry was selected as a finalist based on her role as an instructional leader and advocate for growth and advancement in student learning. For instance, Henry set and achieved district-wide academic goals, and provided innovative resources and professional development opportunities for effective teaching strategies and practices. She was also instrumental in launching K12 at the Y i-Learn Centers, a partnership with area Valley of the Sun YMCA locations and a blended learning program to accommodate students who benefit from both online and face-to-face instruction.
"I'm thrilled Megan has been named a finalist," said Bonnie Hoffert, AZVA/Insight's community liaison. "Her quest to ensure every student has a quality education is truly an inspiration for her staff. She's a wonderful leader and I couldn't be happier for her."
For the past six years, Henry has held an administrative leadership position at AZVA/Insight. She was previously the high school principal before being named head of school in 2009 and overseeing both the high school and K-8 programs. Prior to AZVA/Insight, Henry taught in both charter and brick and mortar schools for more than seven years. She holds a master's degree in educational leadership and business administration from Arizona State University.
The Association will announce the Leader of the Year winner at the 2012 Arizona Charter Schools Association Annual Conference in Chandler on Nov. 2.
