For ten years ABP has been demonstrating the use of high technology on the border - including the first use of unmanned aerial vehicles for border surveillance. In fact, it was ABP's pioneering work that led the U.S. Border Patrol to begin using the Predator drone.
In the promo for the "Border Battles" show, http://outdoorchannel.com/Shows/BorderBattles.aspx, Spencer is seen flying ABP's Cessna TU-206 along the border. Spencer was the pilot for Operation B.E.E.F., http://americanpatrol.com/ABP/SURVEYS/BORDER-2009/Border-Main-20009.html – the project that mapped and photographed the border fence.
ABP has extensive video and photography of drug smuggling and the Mexican military activity near the border that it shared with the Outdoor Channel.
ABP recently released a video explaining how technology has been used on the border. It can be seen on YouTube here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtM7yORAq9s
For the past fifteen months ABP has been testing new technology developed by another Arizona company to detect and count everyone who crosses the border between legal ports of entry. It is called the Sonic Barrier. http://www.americanpatrol.com/12-FEATURES/120220-FEATURE/120220-Feature.html
Spencer says the Sonic Barrier could be installed on the entire U.S. – Mexico border for less money than Boeing spent on the failed virtual fence. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/15/us/politics/15fence.html
Arizona State Rep. John Kavanaugh, chairman of the Arizona House Budget Committee, has expressed support for the Sonic Barrier system concept. http://americanpatrol.com/11-FEATURES/110217-FEATURE/ABP-SVH_110217.html
American Border Patrol operates on a ranch on the border south of Tucson. To arrange for a visit to see the Sonic Barrier, ABP's UAV, an ultra light aircraft used to test border radar, and much more, contact Melissa Jaramillo at 520-803-7703.
