DALLAS, May 20, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AARP's Life Reimagined presents "Reimagine You," a one-day immersive experience at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas, where participants will gain inspiration and guidance as they navigate various crossroads, and discover their opportunities and possibilities in life. Featuring speaker and media powerhouse Arianna Huffington, along with notables Angela Davis, J.R. Martinez and Dani Shapiro, the Saturday, June 11, event will help attendees develop their personal roadmap to success through insightful activities, reflection, and practical ideas on how to pursue what's next. Renowned New York psychiatrist, certified life coach and writer Janet Taylor, M.D., will emcee the event.
"Americans are living longer than ever, which means they're confronting an unprecedented number of transitions, leaving them searching for a trusted place to go for information and inspiration," said Dr. Taylor. "It's that arm around your shoulder to guide you, create that ah-ha moment for what to do next, and give you the confidence to act. It's with this in mind that Life Reimagined is excited to provide this inspiring and fun in-person experience with 'Reimagine You,' allowing participants to discover answers to the questions 'Where are you going? And how are you going to get there?'"
Taylor's work with Life Reimagined focuses on well-being. A frequent guest expert on CBS This Morning, ABC's Good Morning America, and other TV news shows, the programs she's created help with everything from sleeping better to managing stress more effectively. The result is a stronger relationship with friends, family and perhaps most importantly – oneself.
An event registration fee of $129 includes a one-year Essential subscription to Life Reimagined LifeMap™ and a free session with a personal life coach; a "Reimagine You" Journal to guide attendees through the day; and a copy of best-selling author Huffington's new book, The Sleep Revolution: Transforming Your Life One Night at a Time.
"Reimagine You" provides valuable insight from a coalition of experts who are on the cutting edge of their fields. Among those speaking at the event will be Huffington, co-founder, president and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post Media Group, and author of 15 books, who will discuss attaining a work/life balance. Huffington gained worldwide renown with The Huffington Post, a news and blog site she launched in May 2005 that quickly became one of the most widely read, linked to, and cited media brands on the Internet. In 2012, the site won a Pulitzer Prize for national reporting. She has been named to Time's list of the world's 100 most influential people and Forbes Most Powerful Women list.
Huffington's first book Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, and Wonder debuted at #1 on The New York Times bestseller list. Her 15th book, The Sleep Revolution: Transforming Your Life One Night at a Time, on the science, history and mystery of sleep, was published in April.
Other speakers include:
- Angela Davis, a motivational coach at the forefront of a fitness revolution. As a member of the USA Track and Field Team, Davis was a five-time All-American who held world rankings at the 100m. She ran track professionally for Nike, and was an Olympic Trials semi-finalist and a member of the World Championship team. Davis, who will focus on the topics of health and wellness at her "Reimagine You" appearance, has encouraged thousands to believe in themselves and trust that they are already equipped for victory by incorporating her positive affirmations, momentous music and exercise. She believes her true life's work is to help empower those who are ready for change.
- J.R. Martinez, an actor, bestselling author, motivational speaker, advocate and wounded U.S. Army veteran. Martinez, a "Dancing With the Stars" winner and "General Hospital" alum, will discuss overcoming obstacles, something he has inspired countless people around the world to do. In March 2003, Martinez was deployed to Iraq; on April 5, he was driving a Humvee in Karbala when his left front tire hit a roadside bomb. The three other soldiers in the Humvee were ejected from the burning vehicle, but Martinez was trapped inside. He suffered smoke inhalation and severe burns to 34 percent of his body, but fought to recover and has since used his inspiring story to motivate army veterans and the burn-survivor community, as well as change the way America views disabilities. Martinez travels the world spreading his message of resilience and optimism; in addition, he can currently be seen costarring on the syndicated action series "SAF3."
- Dani Shapiro, a best-selling author. Shapiro, who will discuss the topic of spirituality, grew up the daughter of an Orthodox Jewish father and an atheist mother. Still, it took one deceptively simple question from her young son for Shapiro to embark on a spiritual journey: What did his mother believe? Shapiro's work has appeared in The New Yorker, Elle, The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times, and has also been broadcast on "This American Life." In 2013, Shapiro was asked to be a guest on Oprah Winfrey's "Super Soul Sunday," and was chosen by Arianna Huffington to speak at the New York City "Thrive" event the following year.
"Reimagine You" will be held Saturday, June 11, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St., in Dallas. Registration and more information are available at www.reimagineyouevent.com or by calling 615-963-3381 Ext. 8381.
