Argus wins prized UK business award for third time
LONDON, April 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Global energy and commodity news and price reporting agency Argus has received the Queen's Award for Enterprise, which recognises business excellence. The UK's most prestigious business accolade is based on recommendation from the Prime Minister to the Queen and has been given to Argus in recognition of its performance in international trade.
Argus' turnover and exports grew more than threefold over the five-year period reviewed. And overseas sales as a proportion of total revenue increased to 89pc from 84pc. The company's staff tripled to more than 700 globally and Argus opened new offices in Rio de Janeiro and Riga. Argus now has 20 offices in key commodity producing, consuming and trading centres around the world.
Since the last award in 2009, Argus has extended its portfolio of services. Previously known mainly for its expertise in energy markets, Argus now covers fertilizers, petrochemicals and metals. The company expanded into these areas partly by developing expertise in house, but also through a number of acquisitions.
Argus is one of 105 UK companies to receive the Queen's Award for Enterprise in the international trade division this year. Argus won its first Queen's Award in 2002.
Argus was named one of the UK's fastest growing exporters last year in the "Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200", which ranks privately owned UK firms in terms of export growth. Argus has appeared in this league table annually since it was launched in 2012.
In 2013, Argus also renewed its Investors in People status for the sixth consecutive time. This is another UK business performance indicator, based on improving company growth through developing staff.
Argus Media chairman and chief executive Adrian Binks said: "We are delighted that Argus has received the Queen's Award for Enterprise for the third time. Over the last five years we have greatly expanded our range of services as well as developing further our pre-existing products. We are proud to receive this recognition of our success."
