Argus enters top 10 in leading UK business league table
LONDON, Oct. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Global energy and commodity price reporting agency Argus has reached the top 10 in the rankings of most profitable companies listed in the annual "Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250" for the first time. The league table, published in the Sunday Times today, ranks the UK's private-sector mid-market growth companies with the biggest sales.
Argus is in tenth place in the rankings this year in terms of profitability — measuring profit as a percentage of sales — compared with 12th place last year. Argus made a profit of £43.4mn in the 2015-16 financial year, placing it 28th in the league table in terms of total profit. This represents growth in profit of just over one-third compared with a year earlier, when Argus was ranked 35th in terms of total profit.
Argus ranks 196th in the table on the basis of revenue, compared with 227th a year earlier. To be considered for the league table, companies' sales or profits must be growing by a minimum of 5pc/yr. Argus' sales for the 2015-16 financial year increased by 14pc from a year earlier to £141.9mn.
Argus Media Group chairman and chief executive Adrian Binks said: "Our last financial year saw increasing numbers of companies, governments and organisations such as Opec switch to Argus prices for use in contracts, analysis and planning. We continued to innovate and expand our range of services to customers. This is reflected by the continuous improvement in our financial performance figures."
