DALLAS, Dec. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- COPsync, Inc. (NASDAQ: COYN) announced today that the Department of Emergency Management and the Municipal Police Department of the City of Arecibo, Puerto Rico is conducting a pilot evaluation of the COPsync law enforcement, real-time information sharing and communication network ("Network")™ and VidTac, the Company's software-driven in-car video system, to improve security for their tourists, citizens, communities and officers.
The COPsync Network is an advanced communication and information sharing system that protects citizens from violence and domestic terrorism. Community and officer security is increased with advance warnings of dangerous people, real-time notification of crimes in progress, and the COPsync911™ threat-alert system to safeguard schools and keep America's children safer and protect other high-risk targets such as courthouses, government buildings and energy infrastructure. COPsync's systems can save minutes when seconds count, save lives and protect citizens and communities.
Tourism is a massive economic driver of the Arecibo economy. Every year over 300,000 visitors from all over the world visit the Arecibo Observatory – the world's largest single-dish radio telescope. "The Birth of the New World," an enormous statue of the explorer Cristopher Columbus, dedicated on the coast of Arecibo, is also expected to draw tourists to the area.
"The Municipality of Arecibo in Puerto Rico is committed to the safety of tourists and citizens through the use of world-class technology," said Lcdo. Esdras Velez, Secretary of the Municipality of Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
COPsync CEO Ronald A. Woessner stated, "COPsync911 is the world-class technology that can help keep the community safer. There is an enormous customer opportunity in Puerto Rico for the Company's suite of products and services. The Puerto Rico Police Department is the second largest police force in the United States and U.S. territories, with approximately 17,000 police officers. The COPsync Network can help these officers guard against violence and terrorism and keep the Commonwealth safer. Moreover, the COPsync system's 21st century electronic reporting and activity monitoring tools could assist the department in implementing contemplated police department reforms."
Mr. Woessner continued, "There appears to be customer appetite for the COPsync suite of products and services among other countries in the Caribbean, in addition to Puerto Rico. The Company believes its collaboration with UN Ambassador Jack Brewer, who has done extensive humanitarian work in the region, will be helpful in pursuing these customer opportunities. More information about COPsync's plans for expansion throughout the Caribbean will be provided as events unfold."
