NEW YORK, March 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Architectural Record, part of McGraw-Hill Construction, has announced its first Good Design is Good Business Lifetime Achievement Awards. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) is the winner of the Good Design is Good Business Lifetime Achievement Architecture Award, and Haworth, Inc. will receive the Good Design is Good Business Lifetime Achievement Patron Award. The winning firms will be honored at the 2012 Accent on Architecture Gala on March 9th, at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC. The annual gala is presented by the American Architectural Foundation, and celebrates leadership in architecture and design.
Both firms are being recognized for their commitment to design excellence as a motivator for successful business enterprise. Each is a former recipient of Record's annual Good Design is Good Business Awards. Haworth has been a leader in the manufacture of elegant, functional office furniture and environments for over 30 years. In 2008, the company opened a new headquarters building in Holland, Michigan designed by Perkins+Will that embodies its corporate values.
In addition to these awards, AAF, in association with The United States Conference of Mayors, will present the 2012 Joseph P. Riley Jr. Award for Leadership in Urban Design to Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter. AAF will also honor the US Green Building Council (USGBC) with its 2012 Keystone Award, presented annually to an individual or organization from outside the architectural discipline for exemplary design leadership that improves lives and transforms communities.
