FORT SMITH, Ark., Aug. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- ArcBest℠ (Nasdaq: ARCB), a leading logistics company with creative problem solvers who deliver integrated solutions, is pleased to announce that it is one of the 75 Green Supply Chain Partners for 2017.
Each year, Inbound Logistics magazine recognizes companies for their commitment to supply chain sustainability and their demonstration of green best practices in logistics and transportation. The annual list is based on four benchmarks: Measurable green results, sustainability innovation, continuous improvement and industry recognition.
"I am pleased that Inbound Logistics has recognized our company as a Green Supply Chain Partner for an eighth consecutive year," said ArcBest Chairman, President and CEO Judy R. McReynolds. "At ArcBest, we are committed to providing our customers the best experience possible, and that includes adopting measures aimed at improving fleet efficiency and sustainability."
Through its less-than-truckload carrier ABF Freight®, ArcBest has been an active participant in the conservation movement for decades. In 1976, the carrier began voluntarily limiting its trucks' top speeds to conserve fuel and reduce emissions. In 1994, the company incorporated new trucks with computerized engine shut-offs, which reduced idling and minimized fuel consumption while limiting emissions.
This year, ABF Freight purchased 600 new road tractors with improved fuel economy, decreased emissions and automated manual transmissions. Its road tractors are speed governed to a maximum of 63 miles per hour to ensure maximum fuel efficiency. As a result, each ABF Freight truck emits significantly fewer tons of CO2 than identical trucks operating at 68 mph.
Inbound Logistics profiled the G75 companies in its June "Lean and Green" issue.
