Built in 1931, the landmark bridge serves as a vital transportation link to the Toledo Central Business District over large tracts of developing parkland and the Maumee River, a marine thoroughfare and passageway to the Port of Toledo, Lake Erie and the St. Lawrence Seaway. The project marks ARCADIS' largest scale bridge rehabilitation project in the United States to date.
"Our team is equipped with the right tools and expertise to provide high quality engineering assessment, recommendations and construction documents for the most challenging infrastructure projects – even one as large as the Anthony Wayne Bridge," said Edward Adamczyk, Senior Project Manager for the Infrastructure Division of ARCADIS U.S. "Under an aggressive schedule, we will design bridge improvements in accordance with safety, budget and environmental commitments to create a modernized route for passengers, all while maintaining the integrity of the historic structure."
ARCADIS leads the bridge rehabilitation design effort, which includes full deck replacement; truss span replacement; suspension span cable and tower repairs; comprehensive load ratings; structural steel repairs; and drainage improvements, approach roadways and lighting systems design. In addition to the preliminary design for the project, ARCADIS has already performed extensive field topographic surveys, health and safety assessments, bridge inspections, utility coordination and preliminary right-of-way coordination.
