Arbitrator Awards Retiree Damages after Broker recommended Breitburn
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The law firm of Securities Fraud Attorney Mark A. Tepper (www.marktepper.com) announced today that a Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) arbitrator has upheld a claim for damages against Merrill Lynch, after the brokerage firm recommended BreitBurn Energy Partners LP. (OTCMKTS: BBEPQ), to a retiree. Breitburn, (formerly BBEP), was delisted from the Nasdaq to the OTC and filed bankruptcy.
The FINRA arbitrator awarded Compensatory Damages, Pre-Judgment Interest, Expert Fees, Attorney's Fees to be determined by the Court, and ordered reimbursement of the Filing Fee.
"Protecting investors including retirees from predatory investment practices is a top priority for our practice and we're very pleased with the finding by a FINRA Arbitrator in favor of the statement of claim we presented," Mr. Tepper, a former New York Assistant Attorney General and Chief Trial Counsel at the Bureau of Investor Protection and Securities, said.
"It's our view that Arbitration provides a better opportunity for recovery than participating in the bankruptcy. We hope that the recovery obtained in this case will send a positive message to victims of securities fraud – make sure you understand your rights and always evaluate whether you have legal recourse," Tepper added.
The Mark A. Tepper securities law firm recently announced that it is investigating alleged claims against brokerage firms for recommending BreitBurn Energy Partners LP and/or LINN Energy LLC, LinnCo LLC.
