NEW YORK, May 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Aramark (NYSE: ARMK), a global leader in food, facilities management and uniforms, was named one of the 2017 Top 50 Companies for Diversity, DiversityInc announced at diversity and inclusion's keystone event held at Cipriani Wall Street on Tuesday, May 2.
The DiversityInc Top 50 list, issued yearly since 2001, recognizes the nation's top companies for diversity and inclusion management. These companies excel in such areas as hiring, retaining and promoting women, minorities, people with disabilities, LGBT and veterans.
"We are proud to be named one of the DiversityInc Top 50 companies," said Lynn B. McKee, Executive Vice President of Human Resources for Aramark. "We share this honor with our 270,000 team members whose different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives enrich our workplace, creating a culture of inclusion that is critical to the success of our company."
"There are simply not enough qualified people to hire. A company's ability to find the best and brightest, advance and retain them equitably is a decisive competitive advantage," notes Luke Visconti, founder and CEO of DiversityInc. "The DiversityInc Top 50 have a decisive metrics-evidenced ability to treat people more fairly than other large companies. They also have a greater-than-average return for their shareholders."
DiversityInc's extensive annual survey yields an empirically driven ranking based on recruitment, talent development, senior leadership commitment and supplier diversity. This year's competition was improved by new survey questions, increased emphasis on fairness over chasing numbers and more sophisticated analysis from DiversityInc's data scientists.
"The 10 percent increase in companies participating in the survey from a year ago proves that accountable leaders at these companies view diversity and inclusion as a key business measure," said Carolynn Johnson, DiversityInc's COO.
The announcement dinner Tuesday featured speakers including Trevor Noah, host of Comedy Central's 'The Daily Show'; Steve Howe, U.S. Chairman and Americas Managing Partner of EY; Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr., Founder and President of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition; Adm. Bill Moran, Vice Chief of Naval Operations; CNBC journalist Bertha Coombs; and George Halvorson, Chair and CEO of the Institute for InterGroup Understanding.
Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, recently retired Director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, received DiversityInc's Lifetime Achievement Award.
