WASHINGTON, Feb. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- At the invitation of the Global Policy Institute (GPI) think tank in DC, the deputy ambassador of the Arab League mission in Washington Sameh Alfonse addressed an audience of experts, faculty and students on "The Arab World: its present and future challenges." At the event, which was held on February 4th at BAU International Campus, he was introduced by Dr Walid Phares, President of GPI, who described the current wars in the region as a major setback to social development.
Ambassador Alfonse thanked Dr Phares for "his restless work to assist civil societies in the Arab world." Alfonse said "there are too many conflicts in the Arab world, from Syria, Libya, Iraq, Yemen to Libya, while we are worried about the future of young generations growing up in war conditions. We hope we can see the end of these conflicts, yet the greater challenge will be to assist these youth to prepare for their future. After the conflicts have receded the Arab League will have a gigantic task of rehabilitation." He added that the League maintains good relations and partnerships with regional actors such as Turkey, with the European Union and UN agencies."
GPI will host the Ambassador of Palestine at the United Nations, Dr Riyad H. Mansour and NGOs leaders from the region to speak at a dinner at the National Press Club on February 18th on "Syrian Refugees: Past Present and Future".
