Aquent Gymnasium Launches New Course, "UX Fundamentals: Learning to design for your users"
New course teaches the essential elements of user experience design
BOSTON, Aug. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Aquent, the leading global staffing organization dedicated to marketing, creative, and digital professionals, has launched a new course as part of Aquent Gymnasium, a revolutionary MOOC (massive open online course) initiative aimed at closing the skills gap faced by creative organizations worldwide.
The course, titled "UX Fundamentals: Learning to design for your users," is intended for web professionals interested in learning how to assess a site's usability and apply UX principles to site design and development. Over 30,000 students have enrolled in Aquent Gymnasium's courses since its launch in July of 2013.
Beginning today, those interested can enroll in a free online course that will teach these vital UX skills:
- How to conduct basic user research and create user personas.
- Approaches to information design, wireframing and prototyping.
- How to organize a site's content in a way that meets user expectations.
- How to facilitate a positive user experience by relying on common design patterns.
- How to conduct user testing.
"Research shows that you have about 10 seconds to tell a user who you are, why they should care and what you want them to do," said Jeremy Osborn, Academic Director for Aquent Gymnasium. "If you don't have someone advocating for your users, you have a site that people leave or an app they delete."
UX Fundamentals will be taught by experienced web designer Jim Webb, former design lead for National Geographic Digital Media and an adjunct instructor at the Center for Digital Imaging Arts.
When asked to describe what students can expect, Jim says, "The course is a low-buzzword introduction to UX design. It will give students a base to be able to talk clearly and effectively with colleagues and clients about their users (and about user experience design). It's short, intense, and logical without being overly technical."
